Gov’t Set To Pump Ksh700 Million In Garissa Airstrip Renovation
The national government will invest Sh700 million in the upgrading of the Garissa airfield as part of a cooperative initiative with the Garissa County administration.
President William Ruto, who made the news on Thursday when he kicked off the building process, stated that the monies will be used to extend and modernize the runway.
Recognizing the facility’s importance in boosting the region’s economy, Ruto expressed his commitment to completing the upgrade project so that inhabitants may fully capitalize on its potential.
“Some time back people here were forced to shelter under a tree as they wait for their flights but I have come here today to launch the construction,” he said.

He stated that the county has allotted cash for the new terminal facility, which is now under development.
“We want to grow the economy of this region and that can only be possible when we have such a crucial facility. We want to have daily flights to Nairobi so that business can grow,” he added.
Ruto, accompanied by his deputy Kithure Kindiki and other local officials, is in the region for a series of development activities.
His tour began Tuesday in Mandera before moving on to Wajir. He will be in Isiolo on Friday before finishing off in Marsabit.

The airfield, which was built in 1984, has never had major renovations, and the present work is expected to give it a facelift to allow more planes and improve the transportation of goods and passengers.
This, in addition to enhancing its financial viability, will help provide crucial and emergency services such as humanitarian relief and medical evacuation in the region.
The upgrades will also include a perimeter wall surrounding the building for security, a parking lot, and a contemporary gate.
