‘It is My Turn!’ – Kalonzo Declares While Calling Others To Step Aside
Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka has stated that he will not back another presidential candidate, claiming that it is time for others to step aside for him.
The former Vice President stressed that he had made major sacrifices in the past, including stepping down three times for former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.
Kalonzo told Mulembe Nation radio stations on Thursday that he is the most likely candidate to unseat President William Ruto in 2027.
“I have waited for 20 years. There comes a time when even the world acknowledges that it is your time,” he said.
“The moment has come for others to pave the way for me so we can save this country.”

Kalonzo previously endorsed Raila’s presidential campaigns in 2013, 2017, and 2022.
He stood for president in 2007 but lost to Mwai Kibaki before being named Vice President of the Grand Coalition Government.
Kalonzo defended his previous decisions to step aside for Raila, explaining that they were not taken carelessly but after careful consideration and deliberation.
“Many have asked why I kept stepping aside. It wasn’t random—it was based on dialogue and careful analysis of potential outcomes. I have stepped down for Raila Odinga for 15 years,” he said.
Kalonzo also recalled quitting from the election in 2002 to support Mwai Kibaki, the NARC presidential candidate.

“Even before Raila stood at Uhuru Park and declared ‘Kibaki Tosha,’ I was already prepared to step down because I had made my decision,” he stated.

Kalonzo’s words may jeopardize opposition plans to establish a united alliance and run a single candidate against Ruto in 2027.
He is now negotiating with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and DAP-K party leader Eugene Wamalwa to establish a coalition to confront Ruto.
The committee is also expected to include former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i and Narc Kenya leader Martha Karua.
The team has stated that they hope to field a joint candidate.
