‘We’ll Develop This Region!’ – Ruto, Kindiki Promises Northern Kenya

President William Ruto and Deputy President Kithure Kindiki promised the residents of the region on Wednesday that the government is ready to improve the area, which has long been marginalised.

The leaders stated that Northern Kenya will receive equitable development funding and attention to boost economic growth for the benefit of the people.

On the second day of his development trip to North Eastern Kenya, President Ruto stated that his government will not engage in discriminatory practices that further marginalize the region or any portion of Kenya.

“We will work with Wajir leaders and all leaders from North Eastern to develop this region and improve the fortunes of our people here,” the President said during a public address at Orahey Grounds in Wajir town, Wajir County.

Deputy President Kithure Kindiki stated that no one will be able to thwart the vision of a united and thriving Kenya that cares for all Kenyans.

“Those delaying the vision of a united and prosperous country do not have any agenda for our nation. We are asking those who don’t agree with us to give their vision of a united and prosperous Kenya,” said Prof. Kindiki.

During his day-long development visit to the county, the President said that the Isiolo-Mandera Road will open up the region and make it easier for residents to get around.

The President also established the new Wajir County Assembly, Tarbaj Teachers Training College, and the Shuublow Community and Secondary Electrification Project.

Ruto also visited the ongoing development of the projected Wajir County Aggregation and Industrial Park and introduced the Livestock Vaccination Programme.

At Orahey Grounds, the President signed and read a proclamation declaring an end to restrictions on people’s faster acquisition of identifying documents.

“We are ending today the discriminatory vetting and the many questions that have been asked the children and the people of Northern Kenya for them to acquire IDs and other identification documents,” said President Ruto.

He went on to say that the people have long been treated like non-citizens, and he promised to put an end to this.

“This has gone on for over 60 years, but we are ending this today for the people in the region to be treated like every other Kenyan,” the Head of State said.
