EACC Nabs 3 Police Officers After Collecting Ksh.48K Bribe In 2 Hours
The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has detained three police officers accused of extorting motorists and civilians in Nairobi’s Central Business District.
The three were: Corporal Oscar Serem Biwott, Constable Simon Kiplagat Nyunyutik, and Constable Edwin Benedict Mubweka.
“As part of the strategic initiatives to address traffic corruption, the Commission has partnered with the National Police Service (NPS) to undertake a comprehensive audit of the systems and practices of work of the National Police Service (NPS) to identify and seal weaknesses conducive to corruption in Kenya’s police operations,” read part of EACC’s statement.

They were nabbed red-handed on Wednesday morning at the Globe Cinema roundabout after collecting Ksh.48,250 in bribes in only two hours.
The officers, stationed at the Central Police Station, were subsequently led to EACC headquarters at the Integrity Centre to provide statements.

“Following numerous complaints from motorists, bodaboda riders and the general public regarding traffic police officers extorting money from motorists at Globe Cinema roundabout in the guise of traffic law enforcement, the Commission conducted investigations on several days and confirmed the allegations,” a source at EACC noted.

According to EACC, the three suspects are being arrested at Kilimani Police Station awaiting arraignment.
The arrest comes only days after the anti-graft agency initiated an examination of National Police Service (NPS) activities to uncover and close gaps that could lead to corruption in security personnel.
