ALERT! Fear, Trauma Grip Kajiado Village As Serial Rapist Still At Large
Residents of three villages in Magadi, Kajiado County, are experiencing terror and trauma as stories of widespread rape and defilement continue to emerge.
Over the last 10 months, seven women and girls have been victims of a serial sexual predator who remains at large, despite repeated community calls for help.
The tranquil vistas of Esonorua village, with its lush green vegetation, belie the harsh reality for women and girls in the area.
A relentless assailant has targeted women of all ages, including young girls, middle-aged women, and even old grandmothers, leaving a trail of physical and psychological scars.
The attacks have prompted women to restrict their movements, even during daylight hours.
Simple jobs like getting water, collecting firewood, and tending to livestock now require male supervision to ensure safety.
In one especially distressing event, an 85-year-old grandmother, whose identity has been withheld for privacy reasons, described her ordeal.
The attacker ambushed her last Sunday as she traveled from her hometown to Esonorua to see her school-aged grandchildren.
“He came from nowhere, choked me until I fell down, and dragged me into the thickets,” she said. “I begged him to release me, but he raped me. I woke up feeling dizzy and disoriented.”
The elderly woman was rescued by her daughter-in-law, who drove her home before calling a medic from a facility 58 kilometers away.
“She was unable to walk and complained of severe pain throughout her body,” Dennis Cheruiyot, the attending nurse narrated.
“I administered first aid and referred her to Tinga Government Hospital for further treatment.”

Unfortunately, the same offender allegedly assaulted two more ladies in the vicinity that day, including a 12-year-old kid.
The young victim tried to leave but was overcome by the attacker, who threatened her with a knife.
These episodes are part of a troubling pattern that started in Olkeri village in April 2024.
One mother described her grief when her 13-year-old disabled daughter was raped in their house.
“My manyatta didn’t have a door because it was still under construction. The attacker entered at night, took my daughter from her bed, and raped her on the floor,” she said.
The family had planned a fundraiser to help the youngster, who has pelvic region issues, get specialist medical therapy.
The community has expressed anger with the authorities’ perceived inaction.
Lucy Ngoirishishe, a Magadi resident, chastised the local authority for its inadequate response.

“We have reported these cases repeatedly, but little has been done. We feel abandoned by those entrusted with our safety,” she said.
Sarah Sereu, Kajiado’s County Executive Committee Member (CECM), responded by assuring citizens that attempts to remedy the problem were ongoing.
“I have reached out to the gender department, our partners, and Kajiado Referral Hospital’s Gender-Based Violence (GBV) center to provide psychological counseling for the victims,” she said.
Kajiado West Police Commander Ephantus Kariuki said that four defilement charges and three rape cases are being investigated.
