TURKANA: Foreign Militia Enters Kenyan Village, Kills Over 20 Fishermen

Over 20 Kenyan fishermen were slain at the Todonyang border crossing on Lake Turkana when suspected militants from a neighboring nation ambushed them and opened fire indiscriminately.

According to reports, heavily armed Dassanech militia assaulted the area while fishermen were on Lake Turkana.

The attack gravely injured several others, and there are fears that the death toll will climb.

According to other allegations from local authorities, the attack may have been a retaliation for a previous incident in which a well-known bandit shot and killed three Dassanech fishermen in Turkana on Saturday morning.

Following the incident, Turkana North Member of Parliament Ekwon Nabuin urged the Ministry of Interior to intervene, calling it a ‘massacre.’

The MP stated that the situation was ‘very severe’ and urged rescuers to act quickly to protect the people of Todonyang.

The event occurred on Saturday evening along the River Omo in Lopeimukat and Natira on Kenya’s border with Ethiopia.

“Ministry of Interior and National Administration we’re receiving disturbing reports of the killing of more than 20 fishermen in the Todonyang area of Lake Turkana by the Dassanech. The numbers could be higher,” Nabuin shared

“The situation is extremely bad, rescuers must move fast to secure our people. The massacre is happening on Kenyan soil which is occupied by well-armed militias (Dassanech) Onesimus Kipchumba Murkomen,” he added.

However, some survivors were rescued and immediately placed under the care of the Lopeimakate Chief.
