NYAMIRA: Teen Killed, Body Dumped In Tea Plantation As Police Launch Investigations
Detectives in Nyamira County are investigating a suspected murder after the decomposing body of a 19-year-old man was discovered in a tea plantation in Nyamira North Sub-County.
According to police, the body was found on Tuesday in Kianyanchwa Village, Nyagokiani Location.
The discovery was made by a group of women who were plucking tea leaves on a farm belonging to a local resident when they noticed a swarm of flies hovering over a section of the plantation.
On closer inspection, they found a decomposing human body and raised the alarm, drawing villagers to the scene, witnesses said, adding that police were also alerted.
The deceased was later identified as Pellin Omondi Atuya, a 19-year-old who had reportedly left home about a month ago to visit his grandmother in Magwagwa.
His family last contacted him on April 4, when he said he was in Narok, before his phone went off, they told police.
Police officers visited and processed the scene, and preliminary observations indicated that the body had injuries on the neck, face, and abdomen, which may point to a possible struggle before death.
The motive of the killing was not immediately established.
The body was moved to Ibara Mission Hospital mortuary, where it awaits a post-mortem examination.
Investigations are ongoing to establish the circumstances surrounding the death and to identify those involved, police said, as locals called for justice.
