Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has stated that he is a peaceful man, four months after MPs decided to impeach him.

During an interview with KTN, Gachagua stated that he has not experienced tension since being hounded out of the workplace.

“Life is good; I am a very peaceful man. I sleep well, and I am a happy man with no stress. Nobody abuses me, nobody insults me, nobody quarrels with me,” he asserted.

Gachagua also stated that he has found a lot of affection since his removal from the government.

“I spend a lot of time in the village with my fellow villagers, genuine people, good people, catching up and seeing how life will be,” he said.

“I am a very happy man; I do not miss the trappings of power. Peace is priceless; I am a very peaceful man.”

On October 17, 2024, the Senate voted to impeach Gachagua and remove him from office.

Gachagua, who pleaded not guilty on charges of corruption, abuse of office, and stirring ethnic differences, became the country’s first sitting deputy president to be impeached.

It followed a vote in the National Assembly on October 8 that overwhelmingly endorsed his removal.

Gachagua was accused of collecting around 5.2 billion Kenyan shillings through illegal transactions during his two years in service.
