Another Terror Attack Leaves Kenyan Police Officer Dead In Mandera Town

After a police officer was shot and murdered by two gunmen in Mandera town, security authorities began a large operation.

Corporal Hassan Omar, 55, was patrolling near Taqwa Mosque when he was accosted by two gunmen on February 25, according to authorities.

The gunmen shot him twice in the head and killed him on the spot.

They escaped to the neighboring Kenya-Somalia border without taking anything from him.

Police arrived at the site and discovered the officer’s lifeless body on the ground, along with his AK47 rifle, which was loaded with 80 bullets.

The attack’s motivation remains unknown. A significant operation has since been launched in the border region.

Police suspect the gang crossed from Somalia for the mission. Two expended cartridges were retrieved at the scene.

This follows additional attacks carried out by al Shabaab militants who have crossed from Somalia.

In Dagahaley, Garissa County, a motorist was ambushed and robbed of Sh70,000 in goods between Lanta Gasey and Wardeer settlement on Dabadeer Road.

This comes after gunmen stopped him on Thursday night. He disregarded the flagging, causing the gang to shoot at his automobile.

This caused the tyres to deflate, causing the driver and two other passengers to halt, disembark, and hide in the bushes.

Before fleeing, the group looted the car, stealing food and other valuable items.

Police believe the group is made up of Al-Shabaab fighters roaming the neighborhood.

The gang has carried out two attacks in the area, particularly at Elwak, where a Kenya Defence Forces soldier was murdered Monday, February 24, in the morning, following an explosion produced by an improvised explosive device.

Five other soldiers were critically hurt during the raid. It was the second attack in less than 24 hours.
