Health Ministry Sends Emergency Team To Kisii After Mysterious Disease Outbreak
Following a public health scare in Kisii County, where over 200 individuals were hospitalized due to an unknown ailment, the administration has promised immediate action.
Public Health Principal Secretary Mary Muthoni stated that the Ministry of Health had despatched emergency surveillance teams to assess and respond to the situation.
She claimed that the deployed medical specialists will collaborate with the county government’s team to analyze collected samples and identify the source of the disease.
Speaking at an AIPCA church function in Mwea, Kirinyaga, Muthoni stated that the ministry had increased surveillance and screening attempts to determine the cause of the illness.

“Health is a devolved function, but when something like this happens, we always send our officers from the national government, especially those from the surveillance department, to ensure that we conduct comprehensive surveillance and determine the cause of the disease,” Muthoni stated.
“We have already sent our officers on the ground, and they are working closely with the county government to analyse the samples they are collecting,” she added.

Furthermore, the PS stated that the government will only be able to decide on the best course of action and medication if it is fully informed.
Meanwhile, the PS advised the country to keep calm because the situation was under control, and the government was closely monitoring the situation.

Furthermore, a multi-agency government team deployed to South Mugirango, where the disease initially appeared, has urged residents to seek medical assistance at nearby hospitals while the Ministry of Health waits for test results from the government chemist.
Since the outbreak began, an undefined number of people have been admitted to Tabaka Mission Hospital, Nyatike Level Two Hospital, and other private healthcare institutions.
Patients have described symptoms such as severe diarrhoea with bloody feces, fever, and severe headaches.
The sickness discovered approximately three weeks ago, has already spread to three communities in South Mugirango: Nyabigege, Nyamarondo, and Nyarigiro.
