Angry Residents Burn Down Truck For Killing 5 People In A Deadly Crash
On Saturday, residents of Matunda in Bungoma County set fire to a truck that had lost control on the Kitale-Webuye route, killing five persons.
According to eyewitnesses, the truck was on its way from Webuye town when the brakes failed, leading the driver to try to restore control before rolling over.
Among the victims were two boda boda riders traveling from Kitale to Webuye who were killed instantaneously in the incident.
“The truck was coming from Webuye towards Kitale when it reached the Kiminini Matunda bridge and crashed, killing five people,” a witness recounted.
“After losing control, it hit the two motorcycle riders head-on, killing them instantly. Shockingly, the truck crossed over to their lane before knocking them down and rolling over,” he added.
Another witness stated, “The vehicle lost its brakes, veered off its lane, and struck both boda boda riders and water vendors who were at the scene.”
Residents begged the authorities to send traffic officers to control the fast automobiles on the bridge.
Following the event, residents gathered at the location to express their dissatisfaction with the regular accidents in the region.
Police officers’ efforts to rescue the situation proved useless because they came late and were unable to avert the destruction.
