NAIROBI: ODM MP Responds To Reports Of Ignoring Ruto’s Rally
Westlands MP Tim Wanyonyi has spoken out about skipping President William Ruto’s Kamukunji rally, refuting reports that he skipped it on purpose to avoid Governor Johnson Sakaja.
In an interview with Milele FM on Wednesday, March 19, 2025, Wanyonyi denied allegations that he was purposefully avoiding Sakaja, his probable opponent in the 2027 Nairobi gubernatorial contest.
He also dismissed reports that he skipped Raila Odinga’s African Union Commission (AUC) bid prayer meeting at Bomas out of personal animosity.
Wanyonyi confirmed that he was out of the country for an important engagement during the Bomas event and that he had been notified of the meeting but was unable to attend.
“I was not at the Bomas prayer event for Baba because I was travelling. Some leaders had organised the prayers, and they were there to pray for him. I knew everything about it, but I was not around.
“I also missed the Kamukunji rally because I was handling some grassroots matters,” Wanyonyi responded.
Theatrics won’t change the truth! ODM welcomes all, but there’s a process. Anyone who wants to be a member must start from the back and go through the proper processes and nomination channels like everyone else.

Wanyonyi went on to say that Sakaja has done little to enhance the county and that locals are hurting as a result of his poor leadership.
He denied that Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Odinga had privately endorsed Sakaja.
He maintained that Sakaja desired the former Prime Minister’s approval and was following him around to garner political support.

Wanyonyi made it plain that Sakaja should not consider himself a member of the ODM, insisting on remaining in the United Democratic Alliance.
He went on to challenge Sakaja, saying that he was looking forward to defeating him in 2027, regardless of which party he represented.
“Sakaja always attends all of Raila’s events, trying to appear close to him, but he is only seeking his attention. Sakaja is the Nairobi Governor, but he is not a member of ODM.
“If he wants to leave UDA and join us, we will welcome him, but there is a long queue. If he wants to run for governor under the ODM ticket in the next election, then we will compete and see who wins,” he added.
