MP Otiende Amollo Breaks Silence On ODM Division Amid Negotiations

Rarieda Member of Parliament Otiende Amollo has raised concerns about the Orange Democratic Movement’s (ODM) increasing divisions.

Amollo noted that the wrangles could jeopardize the party’s pre-election negotiations for the 2027 polls.

Speaking in his constituency on Sunday, Otiende reaffirmed his commitment to ODM while admitting that the party is becoming divided into competing camps.

One faction opposes President William Ruto’s re-election campaign, while another supports it.

As ODM’s deputy chairman, Otiende warned that infighting could erode the party’s bargaining leverage and advised members to prefer communication over confrontation.

He emphasized that ODM should engage in “structured negotiations” before agreeing to any partnership, and warned against unqualified support for the president.

The legislator cautioned against mindlessly backing Ruto, noting that negotiations must be carefully drafted and signed so that no one can violate them.

He cited the failure of the Ruto-Gachagua cooperation as a warning tale.

Otiende also opposed requests to exclude dissenting voices, reminding members that ODM’s founder, the late Raila Odinga, has always advocated for diversity.

The lawmaker highlighted that ODM has yet to agree on who should lead the negotiations or what concerns should be prioritized, making the current debate premature and fruitless.
