Identity Of Slain Kenyan Police Officer In Haiti Revealed
The Haitian Presidential Transitional Council (PTC) has identified Benedict Kabiru as the Kenyan police officer allegedly assassinated by the Caribbean country gang.
The Haitian authorities announced on Wednesday evening that Kabiru was shot dead on Monday, March 24, 2025, in Savien while conducting an anti-gang operation.
According to the transitional council, the officer, a member of the Multinational Security Support (MSS) mission in Haiti, was killed during a joint operation with Haitian forces.

While mourning him, Haiti’s President, Fritz Alphonse Jean, described Kabiru as a valiant police officer who gave his life for a better future for the Caribbean country.
“The Presidential Transitional Council (PTC) extends its deepest condolences to the government and people of Kenya, as well as to the family of Bénédict Kabiru, who fell on Monday, 24 March 2025, in Savien while carrying out his mission,” read part of the statement by the PTC.
“This valiant police officer, engaged alongside Haitian forces in the fight against insecurity, made the ultimate sacrifice for a better future for our country. His bravery and commitment will never be forgotten,” the statement added.

Addressing the press, the Haitian president vowed to pursue the armed criminals who killed Kabiru, promising to make them accountable in court.
Meanwhile, Kabiru’s death was originally reported on Tuesday, March 25, by local Haitian media, following a battle with the gangs.
During the incident, armed gangs set fire to three armoured vehicles belonging to peacekeepers, with footage of the scenario circulating online showing the vehicles engulfed in flames.

Confirming the tragedy, Kenyan Police Spokesperson in Haiti, Jack Ombaka, said that the event occurred when the trucks became stuck in a trench, which the gangs are suspected of purposefully digging.
According to Ombaka, the gang members ambushed the officers when they were attempting to collect the armoured vehicles.
Following the encounter, the gangs made off with Kabiru’s body.
According to the Kenyan National Police Service (NPS), specialised teams have been deployed to seek for the police officer, whose body is still thought to be in the gangs’ control.
