China Commits To Help Kenya Transform To Modernization

On Wednesday, China unveiled a detailed five-point strategy to boost bilateral relations with Kenya.

According to Chinese Ambassador Guo Haiyan, the steps aim to advance China and Kenya’s common modernization aspirations.

She stressed mutual prosperity, governance partnership, and opposition to global intrusion, signaling a fundamental shift in South-South cooperation.

“China will strive to provide certainty to this uncertain world with its own development in this world marked by transformation and instability,” Guo said.

The ambassador unveiled five major measures targeted at assisting China and Kenya in realizing their common modernization goals.

Amb Guo stated that modernization required a political base, thus the two sides would strengthen high-level exchanges and share governance practices.

“The aim is to improve administrative capabilities and foster stability,” she said, adding, “We will make thorough efforts to develop a unified national market.”

The other program focuses on economic and material cooperation, with intentions to strengthen conventional sector collaboration while expanding into new domains.

To drive innovation-led growth, these sectors include the digital economy, artificial intelligence, green energy, and healthcare.

Ambassador Guo also mentioned that China and Kenya would strengthen intellectual and cultural exchanges.

STEM education, vocational training, and people-to-people contacts are among the priority sectors, with the goal of developing skilled talent and deepening mutual understanding.

“No matter how the word changes, China will stay committed to the path of peaceful development and remain firm in pursuing a mutually beneficial strategy of opening up,” the envoy said.

China also vowed to combat “hegemonism, unilateralism, and protectionism,” while rejecting geopolitical containment and protecting basic interests.

“China will strive for solid progress in high-quality belt and road cooperation, making unremitting efforts to build a community with a shared future for mankind,” Guo said.

The collaboration will extend to multilateral organizations such as the World Trade Organization, the African Union, and the BRICS to fight for fairer global governance and regional stability.

“The underlying trend of China’s long-term economic growth has not changed and will not change,” she said.

The envoy urged Kenya to work closely with China on international and regional issues.

“We need to work together to safeguard the common interests of the Global South,” the ambassador quipped.

She also asked countries in the global south to work together to “promote regional peace and stability and advocate for democratization of international relations as well as modernization of global governance.”
