Chaos, Fists Render County Assembly House Over Speaker’s Impeachment
The trio were hurt after a scuffle between people opposed to Speaker Ann Kiusya’s impeachment and those who supported it on Tuesday.
Majority Whip Lucky Nzau was brought to the hospital while bleeding, while Majority Leader Nicholas Nzioka and Deputy Speaker Stephen Mwanthi received minor injuries.
When the battle broke out in Kiusya’s boardroom, security took her to her adjacent office, where she was locked in to avoid the violence.
Heavy security, which had been stationed at the event due to the sensing of chaos, came in quickly to quell the unrest.

They were greeted with pushback from the furious MCAs, who urged the speaker to leave.
The incident was caused by the actions of several MCAs who sought to remove the speaker.
The Speaker had prepared a new resolution to remove her after an earlier attempt a few weeks ago was foiled by a court ruling.
Tension rose in the assembly buildings as a large detachment of anti-riot police officers searched the compound.

The MCAs fighting for the speaker’s removal continued to sing solidarity songs, halting office functions at the assembly.
They promised to leave nothing to chance until the speaker was removed.
By press time, the speaker was still locked inside her office under protection.
The MCAs opposed to her ouster maintained she was going nowhere as they would do everything possible to defend her.
