‘We Are Not Hiding Any Information!’ – CS Murkomen Gives Update On Haiti Mission

Interior Cabinet Secretary (CS) Kipchumba Murkomen has highlighted the government’s commitment to transparency on the Haiti mission.

Addressing the media on Monday, April 7, 2025, the CS clarified the situation regarding the officers’ well-being in Haiti, stating that the administration has nothing to hide.

He also clarified the number of officers slain in the expedition, adding that, contrary to claims, just one Kenyan officer has been killed thus far.

Murkomen also stated that as of now, just two officers have been hurt, with one missing.

However, the CS stated that efforts to locate the missing officer are already underway.

According to Murkomen, concealing information regarding events on the ground would be an impossible mission because every officer is accountable.

“It is not true that many police officers have lost their lives in Haiti, you cannot hide it because the officers who have gone there are countable by number,” Murkomen said.

“We lost one officer unfortunately, which is very sad because of the circumstances, we know that one officer is still missing and the search still continues to ensure we find him.”

He added; “We also had two others who were injured but they are recuperating well, so there is nothing to hide about the Haiti mission.

“Even if you want to hide it is not possible because the officers who are there are speaking to their families and country people, they are more than 700, there is no way you will say you are hiding information from them.”

Additionally, the CS reaffirmed the government’s commitment to improving communication between officers and their families.

He further stated that in the event of bad news, the families are called first before the topic is publicized.

“We try as much as possible to relay information in a respectable manner but being very factual so that we also don’t hurt families when something happens, we ensure the family has been contacted first before making information public,” the CS stated.

Furthermore, Murkomen underlined the ministry’s commitment to protecting policemen’s lives.

The CS stated that, with the revival of gang activity, the government has expanded measures and efforts to keep them safe while they continue their mission.
