Mercy Mwangangi Appointed The New CEO Of SHA
Aden Duale, the Health Cabinet Secretary, has nominated Dr Mercy Mwangangi as the Social Health Authority’s (SHA) new CEO.
On Friday, April 11, the Ministry of Health issued a statement confirming the appointment of the former Chief Administrative Secretary.
Mwangangi has almost 15 years of experience in the health field, holding a variety of responsibilities.
“Dr Mwangangi a health financing and poling and policy expert with over 15 years of the experience in universal health coverage (UHC), institutional reforms and health systems strengthening a proven leader in health governance, resource mobilization and strategic partnership with an exceptional track record of the driving policy transformation and financial reforms in the Kenya’s healthcare landscape is poised to lead SHA into the next chapter,” the statement reads,
According to the announcement, Mwangangi is now the Senior Health System Strengthening Director at AMREF Health Africa, where she is in charge of overseeing health financing and security efforts throughout Africa.

The ministry commended her on her selection as the first SHA CEO, noting that it is confident in her ability to steer and deliver on SHA’s mandate.
“The Ministry congratulates Dr Mwangangi on the appointment and wishes her all the best as she becomes the first Chief Executive Officer for the Social Health Authority.”
“We are confident that she has what it takes to steer SHA and deliver on the mandate of SHA,” the ministry stated.

Dr. Mwangangi’s appointment followed the completion of a competitive recruitment process that included 92 applicants.
According to the statement, 12 individuals were chosen and interviewed from the 92 who applied for the position.
Mwangangi previously served as Health Chief Administrative Secretary under former President Uhuru Kenyatta.
The Social Health Authority, which superseded the National Hospital Insurance Fund (NHIF), is aimed to provide universal health care to Kenyans.
