REVEALED: Outlook Of Gachagua’s New Party, Its Colours
Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has chosen the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) as his new political vehicle, taking a key step in his campaign against President William Ruto.
Gachagua, who resigned from the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA) on May 12, 2025, is to launch the new party on Thursday, May 15, at 9.00 a.m. at the DCP offices on Musa Gitau Rd in Lavington.
The Former Deputy President has officially launched his political party, the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP), with notable names missing from the top leadership.
At an event on Thursday, May 15, Gachagua unveiled the political vehicle that he hopes will guide him into the presidency in the upcoming 2027 general elections.
However, it appears that Gachagua has decided on DCP, which was formally registered on February 3, 2025.
The party’s colors are green, brown, and black, and its emblem depicts a hand touching an ear, which represents “listening to the ground.” The party’s slogan is Kazi na Haki (work and justice).

The former deputy president has based his political agenda on listening to the people, who he believes no longer support the UDA party, which previously enabled him and President Ruto to rise to prominence.
.The party will be headed by Gachagua, with former Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala as the interim Deputy Party Leader. Former Meru Senator and Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Mithika Linturi will be the National Organising Secretary.
Former Laikipia Women Representative Cate Waruguru will be the National Women Leader. Former Starehe Member of Parliament Maina Kamanda will chair the Council of Eminent Persons in DCP.
The National Chairperson will be David Mingati, and he will be deputised by Peter Mwathi and Sarah Owino, who will oversee the Strategy and Operations, respectively.
DCP’s Secretary General is set to be Hezron Obanga, with Martin Ole Kamwaro being his deputy. Anna Mutua will hold the title of National Treasurer, and she will be assisted by Evangeline Njoka and Tomwas Nyangi.
Former head of the Presidential Delivery Unit, Peter Mbae, will be the Secretary in charge of Economic Planning. Wanjiku Thiga, a politician, was named the National Youth Leader.
1Prior to the ceremony, Gachagua and his allies met behind closed doors for most of Tuesday evening to shape the party’s leadership structure and fill important roles.
Members of DCP’s governing body include Thomas Ratemo, Ado Yiembo, Mably Owino, Hussein Athman, and Laura Njeri.
Other individuals include Abdifatah Abdullahi, Joy Gatugi, Jeremiah Mong’eri, Joel Sang, John Maranga, Miriam Fredina Mariki, and Brenda Banjira Omusinda.

Gachagua is working to popularize his party in order to build a coalition with opposition leaders such as Kalonzo Musyoka (Wiper), Martha Karua (PLP), Eugene Wamalwa (DAP-Kenya), and former Interior CS Fred Matiang’i, among others.
Following his impeachment and dramatic break with President Ruto, Gachagua has kept both political supporters and opponents wondering which party vehicle he will utilize in the 2027 election.
In a roundtable discussion with Egesa FM on Monday, May 12, 2025, Gachagua indicated that his party would bring together political figures from many regions.
“I am launching a national party this week with its roots in Mount Kenya,” he said.
