Gachagua Rushes To Settle ‘Ear Symbol’ Debate Following Elders’ Summon

Rigathi Gachagua, former Deputy President, was forced to clarify the exact interpretation of his new party’s insignia during a meeting with people and elders in Wamunyoro village on Friday morning.

Gachagua unveiled the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) on Thursday, May 15, 2025, at a small ceremony in Nairobi.

The outfit is part of his overall political strategy to oppose President William Ruto in the 2027 General Election.

According to a statement released by Gachagua on Friday, a “fiery debate and friendly fight” broke out in his hamlet just after the party’s official unveiling.

The argument revolved around whether the party emblem is indicated by touching the left or right ear.

“The elders, afraid of further escalation into the weekend, summoned me at night on a diplomatic mission for clarification,” Gachagua wrote on the DCP party’s verified X account.

Honoring the elders’ request, Gachagua said he went to the hamlet early Friday morning with Kirinyaga Woman Representative Njeri Maina and Nyeri Town MP Duncan Mathenge to address the situation.

“In the esteem I hold my elders, and in line with the listening philosophy of our party, I have this morning clarified that it is the right ear,” he stated.

Gachagua also used the occasion to update the locals on current political events and the party’s planned grand debut, which is scheduled for June 4, 2025.

The amusing yet symbolic occurrence highlights the tremendous excitement surrounding Gachagua’s new party, which claims to have enrolled over one million members in the first 24 hours of its launch.

The party says it aspires to reach 5 million members by the end of next week.

While the ear issue may look small, it reflects the growing grassroots support for the DCP, particularly in Gachagua’s Mount Kenya stronghold.

The DCP, which was only unveiled yesterday, is pitching itself as a new political alternative in Kenya’s shifting terrain ahead of the 2027 elections.
