Security Forces Sent To Turkana Villages After Bandits Kill 4 Fishermen

More security troops were dispatched to settlements in Todonyang, Turkana County after gunmen killed four fishermen on the banks of Lake Turkana.

The motive for the May 15, 2025, morning shooting was not immediately revealed. Local officials believe the gunmen were on a revenge mission.

The event heightened local tensions, prompting the deployment of more security forces. According to officials, more teams are anticipated in the area on Friday.

Police say they are pursuing the perpetrators, who are thought to have escaped to the Ethiopian border.

Police claimed they arrived at the area and discovered four bodies peppered with gunfire.

Police claimed the victims were shot at close range. One of the fatalities was 25, another was 32, a third was 22 years old, and a woman was 25.

According to police, the bodies have been transported to the mortuary pending an autopsy.

This is the latest occurrence in the neighborhood, with reports of outsider attacks.

Police stated they are looking into the incident. In February of this year, almost 20 fishermen were shot and killed in the same location.

According to authorities, the incident occurred on February 22 evening near the Lopeimukay and Lotiira areas.

The majority of the bodies were not retrieved.

The infrastructure in the area is poor. The river where the incident occurred flows from Ethiopia, where the fishermen had ventured.

As part of its efforts to combat the practice, the government conducted an operation that included Turkana and other counties.

This has resulted in some of the invaders fleeing to Ethiopia. They mainly launch attacks in Kenya and flee.

Operation Maliza Uhalifu North Rift, which began in February 2023, is a government security initiative aimed at combating growing banditry, livestock rustling, and violence throughout nine counties.
