Mumias East MP Peter Salasya appears to have escaped another police chase on Saturday, May 31, while on a campaign tour in Nandi County.

Following the incident, the MP chastised President William Ruto’s Personal Assistant, Farouk Kibet.

Salasya reported that the MP received a better response in his native county than in the Rift Valley.

“So while Farouk was busy turning Malava into a circus ring, forcing grown men to dance before him like schoolchildren, I was being chased by a government Land Cruiser in Nandi County like a wanted offender. Yes, me. A leader. A citizen. In my own country,” part of the statement read.

“What nonsense is this? What insecurity is this? What fear is eating you up? Just because someone moves around, talks to people, and listens to wananchi, you panic like a robber caught in daylight?”

In a video that accompanied the statement, a police vehicle was seen behind the MP’s entourage, appearing to be in a high-speed chase with the MP’s vehicle.

The police car, with sirens activated, was seen following the MP’s vehicle near the Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC), Mosoriot campus, as the vehicle’s occupants debated what action to take. Finally, they decided to continue driving.

Salasya further criticized the government for wasting resources like fuel, drivers, security detail, and time “chasing shadows” by activating sirens throughout the chase.

Furthermore, he viewed the interaction as a clear indication that the administration was fearful of his nationwide initiatives, and the paranoia was palpable.

Despite the terrible experience, he announced that he would return to the county and continue campaigning regardless of the outcome.

“I will return to Nandi County. I will go to Uasin Gishu. I will walk freely across this republic because Kenya is not a private estate. I don’t need permission to be a Kenyan,” part of the statement.

“And let this sink in: You can chase me with Land Cruisers, but you cannot outrun the truth. And in 2027, no Land Cruiser will carry you back into office.”

This comes just weeks after the MP was forcefully apprehended and taken to court over what he termed as trumped-up charges of publishing false content on social media.
