ALBERT OJWANG: Autopsy Reveals Assault Injuries, Not Self-Inflicted

Pathologist Bernard Midia has stated that the wounds sustained by the late X influencer Albert Ojwang were compatible with a third-party assault.

Midia made the announcement on Tuesday, June 10, at the Nairobi Funeral Home, after 24 hours of heated speculation about the teacher’s death.

According to Midia, Ojwang’s body had external injuries other than his head, clearly ruling out the police’s initial theory that his wounds were self-inflicted.

“The cause of death is very clear. A head injury, neck compression, and we also have other injuries on other parts of the body that are pointing towards assault,” Midia said.

The pathologist also indicated that specimens had been collected and submitted to other investigation organizations to acquire further evidence to support the initial doctor’s report.

“When you combine all the injuries in the body, they are consistent with a struggle,” he added. “There were signs of struggle generally, but they are well described in the report.”

Law Society of Kenya President Faith Odhiambo supported the post-mortem findings, claiming that the late Ojwang’s injuries were compatible with those of someone who had been brutally tortured before his death.

The LSK boss also saw malice in the circumstances surrounding Ojwang’s arrest, as the deceased’s parents were only informed of his condition after he was declared dead.

“We want to know who picked him up in Homa Bay. We want to know all the places he was taken to and who was the one who gave orders for him to be picked up,” the LSK boss said.

Originally scheduled for Monday, Ojwang’s autopsy was postponed a day after government pathologist Dr. Johansen Oduor stepped down.

Oduor claimed a conflict of interest because of his blood relationship to the dead.

The autopsy findings came after Ojwang’s family lawyer provided information about the condition of his body on Monday, revealing that the late had defensive wounds on his hands and back.

This discovery called into question the National Police Service’s initial account of events, which said Ojwang had struck his head against a cell wall hours after being detained at the Central Police Station.

On Tuesday, activist Fred Ogolla accused officials, noting several evident anomalies in how Ojwang’s case was handled shortly after he was allegedly discovered comatose in his cell.

Ogolla stated that authorities had captured the late Ojwang’s social media profiles, but CCTV footage from the Central authorities Station at the time the influencer was killed remained unaccounted for.
