Police Officers Arrested For Fatally Shooting Suspected Drug Peddler
Several police personnel have been arrested following a fatal shooting in Nakuru West during a clash with demonstrators.
The incident occurred on the afternoon of Monday, June 10, when police from Nakuru Central Police Station stormed an area thought to be a hotspot for drug peddlers, leading to a confrontation.
According to witnesses, some of those targeted by the police resisted arrest.
This forced the officers to retreat, and rounds were fired in an attempt to disperse the increasing mob that had already begun to form.
Unfortunately, one of the suspects was wounded by a bullet and died on his way to a local medical facility.

County Police Commander Michael Mwaura said officers conducted a narcotics bust at London Estate, which is known for having peddlers.
“The officers nabbed one suspect who said he was being supplied by a dealer in London in Nakuru West,” he said.
“When officers went to confront the dealer, chaos ensued, and officers were pelted with stones.”
He added, “The officers fired shots to disperse the crowd, and that was when one of the suspects was hit.”
The shooting of the citizen provoked indignation among locals, who told a different story, accusing officers of cruelty over an alleged botched bribery attempt.

Other protestors invaded Nakuru Level Five Hospital, where the deceased’s body was being housed, and demanded justice. Local leaders apparently sought to intervene but to no avail.
While one police officer was reported to have been injured during the commotion, authorities have remained tight-lipped about the bribery charges.
The Nakuru event occurred on the same day as demonstrators protested outside Nairobi’s Central Police Station, demanding justice for the death of Influencer Albert Ojwang.
