UDA Announces Death Of ‘Staunch, Vocal’ Leader
Philip Ekuwam Lomuria, a Nanam Ward MCA and UDA party member, has died, the party confirmed.
Hassan Omar, Secretary-General of the UDA Party, acknowledged in a statement that the politician, who was also the Deputy Speaker of Turkana County, had died, but did not provide any details about his death.
“Until his death, Lomuria, who also served as the Deputy Speaker of the Turkana County Assembly, was a staunch and dedicated member of the UDA Party, who exhibited zeal in undertaking his duties as a legislator at the County Assembly,” the statement read in part.
“As the family, the County Assembly, and indeed the residents of Turkana County mourn the loss of their loved one and leader, the UDA Party sends its sincere condolences and stands in solidarity with them at this time of grief.”

According to Turkana County Assembly Speaker Charles Ewoi, Ekuwam died while being treated at the hospital for an ailment.
In his statement, Ewoi characterized the late Deputy Speaker as a dedicated and ethical leader who served the people of Nanam Ward honorably.
Ekuwam was first elected in 2013 and served as Deputy Speaker for his first term.
He was reelected in 2022 and served in the same capacity until his death.
“His legacy of service, unity, and leadership will be remembered. We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, the people of Nanam Ward, and all who knew him,” the Speaker stated.
On November 13, last year, UDA suffered another defeat when it lost one of its important MCAs in Murang’a.

Mark Wainaina, the MCA, died while being treated for a long-term illness.
Wainaina was diagnosed with a severe pulmonary illness that caused his lungs to collapse, causing his family to admit him to the hospital.
Wainana, a nominated MCA, was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit at one of the hospitals as his condition deteriorated.
President William Ruto led Kenyans and leaders in mourning the late Wainaina, characterizing him as a pleasant and humorous individual with enormous promise.
