DCI Officers Arrest Manyatta MP Over Alleged Incitement
Manyatta Member of Parliament Gitonga Mukunji was arrested on Monday following the mayhem that erupted in portions of Embu County during the Saba Saba commemoration.
His lawyer, Ndegwa Njiru, stated that the legislator was arrested at 3 p.m. and booked at the Kibii Police Station at 3:53 p.m.
Mukunji was eventually apprehended by DCI officials stationed at Juja Police Station.
Njiru stated that the MP was booked under Occurrence Book (OB) number 06/07/07/2025.
The MP was temporarily detained for the “exclusive purpose of holding him” before being transferred elsewhere.
The police chief also stated that Mukunji is likely to face charges of encouragement to violence, but did not provide any specifics.

The MP’s current whereabouts are unknown, and his vehicle is parked at Kibii Police Station. His wife was also searching for him.
On Monday evening, the National Police Service issued a statement confirming Mukunji’s detention.
“A number of suspects have been arrested, including Gitonga Mukunji, MP for Manyatta Constituency,” the statement read.

Chaos was witnessed in portions of Embu, prompting authorities to deploy force to control the situation.
The Kenya National Commission for Human Rights reported that at least ten individuals were killed during the protests that swept across the country.

In a statement issued Monday evening, the commission reported 29 injuries, two cases of kidnapping, and 37 arrests.
The shootings occurred in Ngong, Thika, Juja, Embu, Kangemi in Nairobi, and Dagoretti, among other locations.
“Additional blockades were reported in Kiambu, Meru, Kisii, Nyeri, Nakuru, and Embu.”
“Many citizens were unable to report to work, despite the directive issued yesterday by the Cabinet Secretary for Public Service, Geoffrey Ruku, requiring all government employees to report to work without fail,” the commission said.
