Kakamega School Student Collapses, Dies During Football Game
According to the school principal, Julius Mambili, the student identified as David Owuor had no underlying issues that the school was aware of.
The student was playing football with his classmates when he struck the ball with his head, slumped, and went unconscious.
He had gone to the regular Sunday service with other students.
“Fellow students tried to offer first aid, but he was not responsive, forcing them to rush him to the school dispensary, where first aid was administered, but he was not responsive,” Kakamega Central police commander Vincent Cherutich said.
Cherutich stated that the student was pronounced dead upon arrival at the Kakamega County General Hospital.

According to the school principal, Julius Mambili, the pupil identified as David Owuor had no underlying issues that the school was aware of.
Mambili claimed that the school had previously told his parents, who live in Eldoret.

“The deceased was an outgoing student who performed averagely in academics. He was liked by everyone,” Mambili said.
“We condole with the family. The family has lost, and we as the Kakamega school community have lost too.”
Mambili called for patience among the school community as a post-mortem is awaited to establish the cause of the death.
