‘I Will Sacrifice My Ambition To See Ruto Out!’ – Gachagua Reveals Opposition Plans
Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has stated that he will give up his presidential ambition if the opposition-approved procedure for selecting a candidate for 2027 does not suit him.
Gachagua stated that he is one among those aiming to fly the opposition’s flag in the 2027 presidential election.
He was speaking in the United States, where he is currently campaigning for support and establishing satellite offices for his new party, Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP).
He went on to say that he has the best chance of becoming president of all candidates, but he is also willing to support anyone the opposition agrees on.
“I am a front runner and I think I have the best chances to be President, but I want to give you a commitment that if the formula does favour me to send Ruto home, I will sacrifice my ambition to support whoever the system favours,” Gachagua said.
He went on to explain that the opposition has yet to decide who will be the flag bearer for 2027.

The former DP stated that they will have that conversation at the appropriate moment, and the public will be informed of who their candidate is.
“We have not settled on anybody. There’s only one thing that we have agreed on, and it’s one term, as for who will replace him (William Ruto), not yet,” Gachagua stated.
“But Kenyans say they do not care who; they want him out. As for who will be the flagbearer, at the right time we will discuss.”
Gachagua stated that the government is large enough to accommodate everyone, but they must first develop a system that promotes good governance.

He also stated that the formula must address corruption and put an end to unlawful executions and abductions in the country.
“Government is huge, there’s space for everybody and we will agree who takes what position, provided we come up with a good formula to create good governance and fight corruption, killings and abductions.”
The former DP also denied news that the opposition has chosen former Interior Secretary Fred Matiang’i as its 2027 presidential candidate.
Gachagua claimed it is a creation of a security state agency aimed at dividing the United Opposition.
