‘No Apologies for working with Ruto!’ – ODM’s Wanga Says

Gladys Wanga, governor of Homa Bay, has confirmed the Orange Democratic Movement’s (ODM) continued support for President William Ruto and the Kenya Kwanza administration.

Wanga stated that they have resolved to work with the government for national prosperity.

On July 21, Wanga stated that there was no need to apologize for choosing cooperation over confrontation, and that development and unity should take precedence over disruptive politics.

“We have agreed to work together with President William Ruto, and we have no apologies,” Wanga stated.

“We will support him and the government’s programmes to move the country forward.”

She condemned the idea of opposing the government without a viable alternative, stressing that the ‘Ruto must go’ rhetoric was meaningless in the absence of an election.

“An opposition must have an agenda; its agenda cannot simply be Ruto must go. He cannot go without an election,” she said.

“We will support him and support the programs of the government.”

Wanga also stated that, while some Kenyans were dissatisfied with how the country was being run, the solution was open dialogue.

She echoed the sentiments of ODM party leader Raila Odinga, who has advocated for national dialogue as a way forward.

“People are feeling that things are not going right. Some people are feeling otherwise, and our party leader, Honourable Odinga, has proposed the way forward,” Wanga said.

“He has said, ‘Let us all sit together and dialogue,’ and we, as the ODM party, support the dialogue proposal.”

She disclosed that ODM had prepared a 10-point agenda to guide its interaction with the government, emphasizing that their support for Ruto’s administration was founded on democratic ideals.

“We will dialogue and continue to move that forward. We have agreed that we have a 10-point agenda and we do not have any apologies,” she said.

“We are in a democratic country. We will defend him, because we can only go through an election. The ‘must go’ agenda must sit down. Let us have a conversation.”
