ODM MP Fronts Sifuna’s Replacement As Party SG
Jared Okello, a Nyando Member of Parliament, has been suggested as the best competent candidate to succeed Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna as Orange Democratic Movement party secretary general.
Sam Atandi, an Alego Usonga MP, proposed Okello after Sifuna criticized the Kenya Kwanza government’s alliance with Raila Odinga.
“If you threaten us that you can leave ODM, you are free to leave, even Jared Okello is here; he can take up the responsibility,” Atandi said.
“He has better English; he was schooled in England and has better English than these leaders purporting to be speaking for the party.”
Speaking at St. Michael Boro Secondary School in Central Alego Ward, Atandi advised Sifuna not to speak badly of the deal.
He also warned the senator against threatening to leave the party, pointing out that he would not be the first to depart, as others had done before, and the party had never dissolved.
“ODM will never be brought down by one rhetoric; if ODM were to fall, it would have done so during the exit of Ababu Namwamba; however, he went, and the party is still strong,” the MP continued.

Sifuna, the current Secretary General of ODM, recently sparked a heated discussion inside Raila’s party.
This comes after he revealed that the deal between ODM and Kenya Kwanza was passive, and that even party members were perplexed about what was going on.
“I struggle to explain that we are the same political party,” Sifuna said in an interview on Citizen TV.
“If we stick with this government until 2027 without preparing the party, we’ll lose the chance to explain to Kenyans what we were doing with Ruto all this time.”
Although Raila backed Sifuna and emphasized the party’s democratic and free-speech values, ODM officials continue to attack Sifuna.

“If you think you know so much and you can even counter what Raila is saying, then you are treading on a very slippery path,” Atandi reiterated.
“We don’t care or fear anybody; the party cannot be taken down by a single rhetoric.”
Okello, Sifuna’s proposed replacement, has been an MP elected on an ODM platform since 2017 and has continuously supported the party’s leadership, particularly Raila Odinga.
He is well-known for his outspoken support for the ODM’s involvement in the Kenya Kwanza government, even promising to endorse all government-sponsored measures.
