Raila Allies Clash Over Supporting Ruto In The 2027 Elections

Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi has confirmed that the Nyanza region will fully back President William Ruto’s reelection in the 2027 General Election.

On Friday, August 1, at a public gathering in Homa Bay County, the CS voiced trust in the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party’s collaboration with President Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance (UDA).

He emphasized that the unity between the two parties had made tremendous progress and may last beyond the next general election.

However, Mbadi stated that the Nyanza area will only stop backing Ruto’s presidential campaign if he backs ODM party leader Raila Odinga’s presidential ambitions.

“ODM and UDA will work together until 2027 and even until 2032. We will continue supporting Ruto until Jesus one day decides to separate us,” Mbadi revealed.

“The only thing that could stop us from voting for Ruto is if he decides to support Raila for the presidency. That is the only thing that could stop us from supporting Ruto’s presidency,” he added.

At the same time, Mbadi took aim at former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, denying any prospective collaboration with him ahead of the next general election.

While criticizing Gachagua, the CS described the former DP as hypocritical and opportunistic, claiming that he solely seeks support from the Nyanza area for personal gain.

“You see, the person who is currently calling us to go and join him in the opposition, when he joined the government, he said we can never get to State House,” the CS noted.

“Now we are in the State House, and he is no longer there. Now that he is lonely in the streets, he is again calling us to get out of the State House to support him. Are we stupid?” he questioned.

Meanwhile, CS Mbadi’s comments come just hours after Mbita MP Millie Odhiambo stated that support for Ruto in the forthcoming 2027 General Election was not guaranteed.

Addressing Homa Bay locals on Wednesday, the outspoken politician refuted allegations that the opposition will automatically support Ruto’s presidential campaign.

Instead, she proposed that Ruto should also rally support for Raila.
