Kalonzo Promised To Sponsor 500 Fans For Harambee Stars’ Next Match
Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has volunteered to sponsor at least 500 football supporters for the next three Harambee Stars games in the African Nations Championship.
Kalonzo, like millions of other Kenyans, tuned in on Sunday, August 3, when the Kenyan national team faced the Democratic Republic of Congo in their Group A opener.
Gor Mahia playmaker Austine Odhiambo’s only goal in the first half was enough to give Harambee Stars a much-needed victory.
Leaders from all sides of Kenya’s political divide have come together on social media to congratulate the national team.
While Kalonzo was not present at the Moi International Sports Complex, he did upload photos and videos of himself cheering on the Harambee Stars alongside other dignitaries.
Following the triumph, Kalonzo offered to purchase tickets for football supporters to the Harambee Stars’ following games through a federation of which he was a patron.
“Football is a universal language that brings people together, regardless of their backgrounds, beliefs, or political affiliations,” Kalonzo announced.

“I’m sponsoring 500 fans to attend the next three CHAN Harambee Stars matches at Kasarani through the Kenya Football Fans Federation (KEFOFA), of which I am the patron.”
Tens of thousands of football supporters arrived at the Kasarani grounds as early as 11 a.m. on Sunday, August 3, to cheer on the Harambee Stars.
By kickoff, people were still flooding in amid stringent security checks, and the stadium was nearly full by the time the Harambee Stars led 1-0 at halftime.
Kenya’s final group game will be against Zambia on August 17, with all Harambee Stars home games scheduled at the newly renovated Moi International Sports Centre.

In addition to Kalonzo, other opposition figures, such as former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, congratulated the Harambee Stars.

Prior to kickoff, President William Ruto got into the CHAN mood by presenting a slew of incentives to encourage the Harambee Stars to perform well in the competition.
One of the President’s major pledges was a cash incentive of Ksh1 million for each Harambee Stars player who won a game in the 19-team competition.
