SCAM ALERT! Gov’t Breaks Down NYOTA Program, Clarifies Applications Process
Following an increase in phony platforms and scammers, the government has issued a warning to young people looking for opportunities through the National Youth Opportunities Towards Advancement (NYOTA) programme.
In a statement issued on Monday, August 4, NYOTA project organizers reaffirmed that the programme is free of charge and that applicants are not obliged to pay for any services associated with the initiative.
They further stressed that only the official NYOTA platforms were authorized to communicate program updates, which may only be released through the official NYOTA social media channels.
“Next steps on all applications will be communicated to all applicants via their numbers used during the application process, as well as official announcements shared on the project website and the relevant social media channels,” a statement from the NYOTA program.

Youth who want to learn more about the program are encouraged to attend a NYOTA project office or their local sub-county youth office.
The announcement came after several young people claimed online that they had received offers to apply for the NYOTA program for a price in order to gain an advantage over other applicants.
Unknown numbers apparently pressured sections of the young over WhatsApp to apply for the program through questionable websites.

Previously, NYOTA urged adolescents interested in career and training opportunities to apply for the program, which is a joint initiative of the government and the World Bank.
The Cabinet approved the NYOTA initiative on Tuesday, July 29, and it is projected to assist more than 820,000 vulnerable and unemployed children, including those with disabilities.
Notably, the program is divided into four components: paid on-the-job training, entrepreneurial support, business growth assistance, and RPL certification.

The application window opened on July 11, and the administration thinks that at least one million people have applied since then.
