‘ODM, Wiper Still In Azimio Coalition!’ – Sifuna Says, Expresses Support For Kalonzo

Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has recently stated that Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka remains his coalition principal, refuting rumors of defection from the Azimio.

Sifuna told Kitui County citizens on Saturday afternoon that the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party is still part of the opposition coalition.

Despite popular suspicion that the ODM party had joined the Kenya Kwanza coalition, the senator stated that both Wiper and the ODM parties remained together under Azimio.

“People fail to recognise that ODM and Wiper parties are still under one coalition called Azimio,” Sifuna asserted.

“I recognise Kalonzo Musyoka as my leader under the Azimio coalition. I also recognise Wiper party members as fellow coalition members.”

While reaffirming his support for the Azimio alliance, Sifuna emphasized the importance of collaboration between the Wiper and ODM parties in order to effectively oppose the existing system.

During the event, the ODM Secretary-General also criticised President William Ruto, accusing him of sabotaging devolution.

He stated that the current government, led by Ruto, had greatly failed Kenyans, especially the governors, who he claimed struggled to operate counties due to budget limitations.

In his remarks, Sifuna argued that his present political alignment was motivated by the desire for greater government rather than personal ambition.

“You know the biggest enemy of devolution is the national government led by President William Ruto. The biggest problem in this country is at the State House,” Sifuna claimed.

“My biggest goal now is not to become a governor; my goal is to ensure we get a better president who believes in devolution,” the ODM principal reiterated.

The ODM Secretary General’s critique of President Ruto’s administration starkly contradicts that of his party leader, Raila Odinga, who just the day before professed support for the same regime.

Raila defended his decision to collaborate with the Kenya Kwanza administration while speaking at the burial of renowned women’s rights campaigner Phoebe Asiyo on Friday, August 8.

The former Prime Minister revealed that his cooperation with Ruto will stretch beyond the 2027 general elections.

“When the right time comes, we will face Kenyans and tell them why we did this and where we want to go,” Raila declared.

“I don’t have any doubt, you can make noise the way you want, but we will be able to move beyond 2027,” he added.

“I am confident we will move beyond 2027, and nobody should try to threaten us.”
