Senior Kenyan Officials Meet With Haiti’s New Leader
A Kenyan delegation met with Laurent Saint-Cyr, the new head of Haiti’s interim presidential council, to discuss the status of the UN-backed Multinational Security Support (MSS) Mission.
Led by Deputy National Security Adviser Joseph Boinnet and Kenya’s Consul General to Haiti, Noor Gabow, the team met with Saint-Cyr in Port-au-Prince.
He acknowledged his satisfaction with the mission’s current efforts against criminal gangs.
The tour, which served as a critical evaluation mission, was to evaluate the work of the 800 Kenyan police officers leading the international effort to restore order in the Caribbean country.
The Kenyan deployment is the initial phase of a wider operation to assist the Haitian National Police in stabilizing the country and defending important infrastructure from armed groups.
During the discussion, the delegation, led by Godfrey Otunge, the head of the MSS mission, addressed critical operational tactics and logistics.

The discussions centered on increasing collaboration and ensuring that the mission’s goals are realized under Haiti’s new government.
According to a statement from Saint-Cyr’s office, both countries will continue to collaborate as ideas to extend the mission are considered.
“Both parties agreed to continue advocating for increased support in equipment and logistical resources for the MMAS, as well as to pursue discussions on the future of the mission, including ongoing proposals with the UN and the OAS,” the statement read in part.
Plans are ongoing to deploy more officers, and the UN will consider the mission’s mandate next month.
The group also discussed the planned inauguration of Kenya’s consulate in the Caribbean island.
