Machakos County Goes After Obinna After Comedian Kioko’s Interview

Machakos County has sent a demand letter to media personality Oga Obinna following an interview he conducted with disgruntled comedian Sammy Kioko.

Kioko’s widely publicized disagreement with the county administration is about the claimed nonpayment of Ksh19 million for services rendered.

The main issue is that the county claims Kioko is not registered as a director of any of the companies it engages with.

During his conversation with Obinna on November 10, the comedian discussed how the non-payment of the money had affected his companies and mental health, forcing him to seek help from close friends.

He also disclosed that multiple attempts to contact senior county authorities, including the governor, were unsuccessful, resulting in a flurry of accusations and counter-accusations.

As a result, the Wavinya Ndeti-led administration has doubled down on its allegations that it did not enter into a contract with Kioko, requesting that Obinna present any documentation to back up his claims during the interview.

“This letter is therefore to demand that you supply us with the documents confirming the said Sammy Kioko’s claim against the County Government of Machakos as published in your show, failure of which we will be forced to take action against yourselves for the hosting, publishing and disseminating false information on your YouTube Channel and your social media channels, whereas the said information is skewed, false, malicious and does not paint the real picture,” part of the letter read.

In the letter, issued by the county’s solicitor, Obinna was accused of discrediting the county’s officials and other regional leaders, whom he claimed had nothing to do with the county’s affairs.

Obinna replied against the county administration on social media, claiming that they should have just called the county government.

“Sammy Kioko, please bring the contracts and delivery notes signed and stamped by the county government officials so that my lawyer can send them to the county government of Machakos,” Obinna said.

“A very simple issue being made huge by everyone just avoiding calling Kioko and finding a solution. Ya’ll had time to write a demand letter for documents; you could have just asked directly from him.”

Following the conversation, Obinna attempted to contact a few politicians to assist Kioko, including former Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka.

Kalonzo reportedly refused to become involved, and former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko pledged to intervene, calling him to a meeting on November 11.

Meanwhile, the comedian has yet to get his compensation, despite the County Government’s continued claims that his acts are part of a politically motivated conspiracy to harm Governor Ndeti’s reputation.
