UDA Vows To Honour Raila By Completely Executing NADCO Report

The ruling United Democratic Alliance has pledged to fully execute both the Nadco findings and the 10-point agenda signed by President William Ruto and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.

Speaking on Friday during the opening of a new UDA office in Vihiga county, Secretary General Hassan Omar stated that this would be the finest way to commemorate the late ODM leader.

Raila died a month ago, before what was envisioned in the two treaties could be realized.

“God in His own wisdom allowed us to have a coalition with ODM. As UDA, we will make sure we respect the selflessness of the late Raila Odinga by ensuring all that was agreed upon, word for word, to the spirit and letter, with William Ruto, is implemented,” he said.

“It is the best honour we can give the fallen hero of Kenya, Raila Odinga.”

According to Omar, the complete execution of the National Dialogue Committee (Nadco) report and the 10-point agenda will assist the Kenya Kwanza government in achieving its Bottom-Up development plan.

“We will achieve the kind of leadership we have proposed, we shall stabilise the economy just like we said and continue to strengthen it,” he said.

The Nadco report was finalized and signed on November 25, 2023, and was officially presented to the National Assembly on December 7, 2023, and the Senate on February 21, 2024.

The study, prepared by appointed officials from both the UDA and the ODM, advocated constitutional, legal, and policy changes to address national concerns.

The key proposals included addressing the cost of living, restructuring the electoral commission and auditing the 2022 election, and establishing offices for the Leader of the Official Opposition and Prime Minister.

It also advised incorporating particular funds into the constitution, such as the NG-CDF, NGAAF, and Senate Oversight Fund, as well as developing a framework for implementing the two-thirds gender rule.

Speaking during the signing of the agreement on the steps of the KICC, Raila said the MOU was meant to ease prevailing tensions in the country, reconcile the population and move the nation forward by addressing critical issues facing wananchi.

“As leaders of the largest political parties in the country, we arrived at the understanding that in a time of significant challenges to our nation, it is not enough to merely grandstand or stand aside and criticize, easy as those may be,” he said.

Raila died on October 15 of cardiac arrest while receiving treatment in India.
