“Continue Raila’s Battle For Democracy, Accountability!” – Uhuru Tells ODM

Former President Uhuru Kenyatta has urged the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) to continue the legacy of late leader and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.

In a message given by ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna, Uhuru characterized Raila as the driving force behind Kenya’s long-running quest for justice and political change.

In his message to ODM members during their 20th anniversary celebration in Mombasa, Uhuru stated that the party must remain rooted in the values that defined Raila’s decades-long push for a more equal country.

He stated that Raila’s absence was still felt strongly throughout the country.

“Wanachama wa ODM, today, as we celebrate this milestone, my heart is emotionally heavy as I remember my brother and friend and compatriot, Raila Odinga. May his soul rest in peace,” Uhuru said.

He referred to Raila as more than just a party leader, calling him the spirit of his struggle and the personification of tenacity, endurance, and unflinching faith in the Kenyan ideal.

According to Uhuru, Raila’s sacrifices and leadership influenced not only justice movements but also Kenya’s political progress.

“Baba was not just a leader of ODM. He was the spirit of his struggle… His courage, resilience and selflessness shaped not just the justice movement, but the very cause of Kenya’s political evolution,” he said.

Uhuru urged ODM members to carry on Raila’s agenda of democracy, accountability, and inclusivity.

He challenged the party to embrace a vision of a nation in which no kid goes hungry and justice is available to all, not just the rich.

“Let us keep alive his fight for democracy, accountability and inclusion,” he said.

“Let us make real his vision of a Kenya where no child goes hungry, where justice is not for the privileged few, and where every Kenyan, young or old, has an equal opportunity to thrive.”

Uhuru expressed hope that ODM’s next chapter would be marked by rebirth, progress, and a solid commitment to establishing a nation that ensures dignity and opportunity for all inhabitants.
