Murkomen Reveals Reasons For Natembeya’s Security Withdrawal
Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has acknowledged the removal of security officers assigned to Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya.
Murkomen, on the other hand, insisted that he (Natembeya) was not the only politician to lose the security officers, despite the fact that a number of politicians from both sides of the political divide are preparing for by-elections in their region on Thursday.
“The National Police Service has a report that the officers attached to them are involved in criminal activities,” he said.
“Some who may be seen to be leaning to one side of the political divide have chosen to keep quiet and not to share publicly what the police have done, but some have decided to go public.”

Adding, “It is not only one person whose security has been withdrawn.”
According to the CS, its goal is to ensure that police do not misuse firearms in the sake of safeguarding their superiors.
“In any case there is no boss tomorrow. The people are the bosses, and they are going to elect their boss, so everybody who was campaigning for a party your job is done,” he said.
Murkomen stated that anyone caught lingering and attempting to meddle with elections will be handled as a suspect “like other suspects.”
He stated that the presence of security agents at voting locations will prevent voters from being intimidated.
“Our job as a government is to ensure voters are not intimidated, and when we succeed in intimidating the goons, we are very happy,” said the CS.
“When goons complain that the government is intimidating, it is my joy.”

Murkomen was speaking when he examined the security situation and preparedness in Kasipul and other voting districts ahead of the election.
His statement came after Natembeya stated that security officers assigned to him as bodyguards, as well as those guarding his Kitale house, were recalled on Tuesday night.
The governor described the withdrawal as a form of intimidation and a danger to his life.
“All the security officers attached to me were recalled last night, and I was forced to have my own measures in place for safety,” said Natembeya.

Natembeya stated that security for him was not an offer from the government or anyone else, but rather a constitutional entitlement that must be maintained.
He accused the police of being used to politicise and weaponise the security apparatus because of political interests.
“Let whoever did that know that I will not be intimidated or cowed into giving up on my stand,” said Natembeya.
He said the withdrawal was done at a time when his life had been under threat, with attacks he escaped during the by-election campaigns in Malava and Bungoma.
