Kalonzo Breaks Silence On Gachagua’s Alleged Agreement On Nairobi Seats

Wiper Patriotic Front Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has denied former deputy president Rigathi Gachagua’s assertions that the two had reached an agreement to withdraw their candidates from all key Nairobi seats in favour of Gachagua’s Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP).

Speaking at a Thanksgiving celebration in Machakos County, Kalonzo denied the existence of such an agreement, accusing the government of disseminating falsehoods in order to divide the United Opposition.

“Stop this propaganda that Wiper has left all the seats in Nairobi for DCP. They have to try everything to create tensions between us,” Kalonzo stated.

Kalonzo reiterated the opposition’s commitment to working together to remove President William Ruto in 2027.

“We are calling our colleagues to sit together. There’s nothing seriously wrong, and we will take a collective stand,” Kalonzo noted.

Gachagua claimed that the pact would have given his party control of all Nairobi’s top seats, including governor and senatorial seats, in 2027.

DCP would also control 16 out of 17 parliamentary seats and more than 90% of MCA positions in the capital.

“We have an arrangement with the Wiper party leader. Out of 17 constituencies, DCP will take 16. Out of 85 wards, between DCP and Wiper, we will have 75,” Gachagua earlier stated.

Others in the opposition interpreted Gachagua’s move as behind-the-scenes lobbying, which sources claim is still taking place within the coalition.

The former DP is apparently looking for significant Nairobi positions in exchange for backing Kalonzo’s 2027 presidential campaign.

The united opposition has been dealing with back-and-forth charges, with other leaders accused of conducting meetings and forming political ties without the approval of the full coalition.

Despite these charges, the united opposition has always maintained that the alliance is intact and will field a single candidate to confront President Ruto in 2027.

President Ruto had previously dared the opposition to tell Kenyans their plan instead of just trying to remove him from office.

The United Opposition maintained that their only and most important plan is to help Kenyans send the president home in 2027.
