DR Congo Blasts Rwanda For Breaking The Peace Pact
Democratic Republic of Congo President Felix Tshisekedi has accused Rwanda on Monday of breaking its pledges to a US-brokered peace pact aimed at ending years of bloodshed in the country’s mineral-rich east, just days after attending a signing ceremony in Washington.
Tshisekedi made the claims during a speech to legislators. Rwanda did not respond immediately. The US State Department encouraged Rwanda to avoid escalation.
Deadly fighting have hampered efforts to put the terms of recent accords brokered by the United States and Qatar between Congo, Rwanda, and the rebel group M23 into effect.
Over the weekend, Rwanda-backed M23 rebels moved along the Burundi border, capturing the settlement of Luvungi.

This is according to two residents who spoke with Reuters and shared video of the rebels meeting there. Rwanda denies supporting the rebels.
On Sunday, some Congolese soldiers fled the town and clashed with Wazalendo defense forces in the nearby town of Sange, officials claimed.
Sange was bombed or attacked with grenades, killing up to 36 people, according to an official and other sources on Monday.
It was not immediately obvious whose side of the fight had shot or what type of weapon produced the explosion.

A civil society source posted images of the bodies of those killed, which seemed to be civilians dressed in colorful, non-military attire, splattered in blood and lying at weird angles.

Two bodies were small and appeared to be those of young children. The Congolese army did not immediately respond to a request for comment. M23 also did not respond to a request for comment.
Last week, Rwanda and Congo reaffirmed their commitment to a U.S.-brokered deal signed in June and signed new agreements in Washington.
A senior Trump administration official said they were monitoring the situation, “including areas where actions on the ground do not yet align with the commitments made.”
The official said the administration is working with both Congo and Rwanda, and that “the president has made clear to both sides that implementation is what he will judge, and as he stated, he is expecting immediate results.”
