United Opposition Slams IEBC Over Sham Mbeere North, Malava Polls

The United Opposition has accused the Independent Electoral and Boundaries panel (IEBC) of being a state puppet, warning the panel not to oversee shambolic elections in 2027.

The leaders, who assembled in Ithanga Village in Muranga County on Tuesday for the late Herbert Kariithi Macharia’s burial, believe that the recent by-elections revealed the government’s closeness with the IEBC.

They accused it of being an extension of the government and questioned its transparency in preparing for the 2027 general election.

They threatened to dispute the results of the Malava and Mbeere North parliamentary by-elections, claiming they were illegitimate.

Wiper Patriotic Front leader Kalonzo Musyoka accused IEBC Chair Erustus Edung Ethekon and CEO Marjan Hussein Marjan of conspiring with Kenya’s Kwanza administration rather than maintaining the IEBC’s independence.

“We will not allow the current IEBC to stand in the way of the people’s will. The country knows this is a Ruto commission,” he said.

“We have seen the fraud committed during the last byelections. We shall pursue private prosecution where accountability is required. Kenya must have free and fair elections.”

The leaders went on to defend their unity, stating they will work together to ensure President Ruto serves only one term.
