“2027 Presidency Is Already Decided!” – CS Mbadi Tells Opposition

Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi believes the ODM party leadership’s ambivalence over supporting President William Ruto’s re-election could polarize the party ahead of the 2027 general election.

Speaking in Kabondo Kasipul Constituency on Saturday, the Treasury Secretary advised the opposition party to plan for the 2032 elections, since incumbent President William Ruto is unchallenged in the 2027 elections.

“We must strategise, we must be tactful, we must form alliances which make sense,” said Mbadi, a former ODM Chairperson.

“And you cannot talk about we are with you up to 2027. After 2027, where are we going? The president of 2027 is already decided.”

“There is no new candidate who will come and make an impact. That is a lie. This is a time now to prepare ourselves for 2032,” he added.

Mbadi challenged ODM members who are dissatisfied with Ruto to express their support for former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua rather than wasting time.

“And you cannot prepare yourself for 2032 if you want to work alone. You must work with other people,” the Treasury CS added.

“Either we work with that united opposition of Gachagua, Kalonzo, or we remain behind Ruto. We give him a second chance as we plan for 2032. That is the only thing.”

Mbadi voiced unhappiness with ODM officials who claim the party will only support Ruto until 2027 under the broad-based governance agreement negotiated by its former leader, the late Raila Odinga.

According to the CS, failure to stick to the agreement may injure the relationship between ODM and Ruto.

“And we cannot work with people who have gone down previously. We can only work with people who have demonstrated that they can work with us,” stated Mbadi.
