Robert Alai Responds To Claims of Pulling Gun On Babu Owino

Kileleshwa Member of County Assembly Robert Alai has given his version of events, denying pulling a gun to threaten Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino.

On Monday, January 5, Alai appeared on TV and strongly refuted Babu Owino’s assertions that the MP had been physically beaten and threatened by the MCA in a restaurant.

Initially, Babu Owino claimed that Alai had drawn his gun and hit him in the face.

The MCA, on the other hand, blamed the Embakasi East MP, accusing him of threatening him after being elected governor.

โ€œI didn’t draw a gun on him; there was a gun on my waist, but I didn’t draw a gun on him,โ€ Alai claimed.

“The person sitting next to me saw the gun on my waist because I was not wearing a jacket; I was wearing a shirt only; the person took the gun away.”

The Nairobi County Assembly member has now challenged his accusers to present evidence that he brandished a gun at the Embakasi East Member of Parliament.

โ€œIf you go to that restaurant, they have a video; produce one video where it shows I drew a gun on him,โ€ Alai said.

He describes how the argument began: he was seated at the restaurant when Babu Owino approached his table to greet them. Alai states that he informed Babu that he was uncomfortable greeting him.

The Kileleshwa MCA further says that the MP pushed his head while allegedly telling Alai that he would appoint him to an executive docket once he takes office as Nairobi Governor in 2027.

Alai also stated that he challenged Babu about enlisting his family members in politics; yet, he continued to blame Babu for escalating the situation.

Alai insisted that the MP allegedly kept pushing his head, forcing him to stand and push him away.

His version of events contradicts Babu Owinoโ€™s story, where he claimed that Alai had poured a glass of water on his face.

The MCA then went ahead to draw a gun on him, which was allegedly used to strike Babu Owino on the chest and jaw.

In a statement over the weekend, Babu Owino claimed the incident was politically motivated, describing it as part of a wider pattern of intimidation following the death of Raila Odinga.

The matter is now under police investigation after it was reported at the Kilimani Police Station. The police have confirmed the confiscation of Alai’s firearm.
