Speaker Wetang’ula Issues Update On Hospitalized Kwanza MP
National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula has stated that Kwanza Constituency MP Ferdinand Wanyonyi is stable and receiving specialist care at KIMS Health Care Management Limited in Kerala, India.
The MP, who has been absent from parliamentary duties for most of 2025, is being cared for by a multidisciplinary medical team led by Indian experts specializing in physical medicine and rehabilitation, who have certified that he is responding well to therapy.
“I visited Hon. Wanyonyi and was encouraged by the progress he has made. I remain optimistic about his recovery,” Wetang’ula said following a visit to the hospital where the lawmaker is currently admitted.
During the visit, Wetang’ula congratulated the medical personnel on behalf of Parliament and the Kenyan people, applauding their professionalism and commitment to the MP’s treatment.

Meanwhile, the speaker stated that India, particularly Kerala, has become a favored destination for Kenyans seeking specialist medical treatment due to the quality of services, advanced technology, and relative affordability of systems that Kenya would soon implement.
The Speaker stated that the tour provided insights into possible collaborations between Kenyan and Indian health institutions, such as specialist training, expertise transfer, research, and structured referral systems.
“Upon my return to Nairobi, I will engage relevant parliamentary committees to explore partnerships in specialist training, expertise transfer, research, and structured referral systems to strengthen Kenya’s healthcare capacity.”
On December 5, last year, while addressing members on the floor of the House, Wetang’ula was obliged to reject rumors that Wanyonyi had died.

The speaker further denounced the rumors as malicious and callous, following a slew of online reports claiming his death.
He confirmed that the lawmaker had been admitted to a Nairobi-based hospital for about a month before being referred to India for specialised treatment.
The speaker said Wanyonyi has been accompanied by his wife and daughter throughout his treatment, who have been providing constant support and updates on his health.
Wanyonyi is currently serving his third consecutive term as an MP for Kwanza Constituency, having first been elected in 2013 and has been re-elected in 2017 and again in 2022
