Military Officer Beats Umoja Man To Death As Family Demands Justice

A family in Nairobi’s Umoja 1 estate is requesting that a military officer be arrested in connection with the death of a family member.

The family claims that Alphy Migasha was attacked and badly beaten by a military officer named Nicholas Ireri Njue.

They accuse the police of failing to move against the suspect despite the fact that Alphy died as a result of his injuries.

However, police at Buruburu Police Station say the following steps will be determined after an autopsy is performed.

Alphy is seen reclining outside a liquor shop in Nairobi’s Umoja One estate in a CCTV picture obtained on December 22.

Moments later, a man approaches and confronts him. The exchange is brief before the man violently pulls Alphy to the ground and assaults him.

The attacker continues to rain blows on Alphy as spectators try to intervene. He then walks away casually, leaving Alphy on the ground, writhing in pain and powerless.

Alphy’s family claims they were alerted and hurried to rescue him, transporting him to Mama Lucy Kibaki Hospital for emergency treatment.

Doctors confirmed that he had suffered severe injuries, including fractured ribs, a broken leg, and chest trauma.

He was put on medication after his family reported the event to Buruburu Police Station.

Buruburu’s DCIO, Simon Kirui, has confirmed that the suspect is a military officer.

He told the family that police are actively working on the case and are awaiting the autopsy results, which will be an important aspect of the inquiry.

Alphy’s mother, Stella Okinda, said: “Tulienda tukareport kwa police Buruburu tukawapa kila kitu…wametuitisha kila kitu wanataka, lakini hawajatusaidia, mara mwisho walisema wanataka niwaletee kitu…sasa mimi naomba mnisaidie…”

Later, the family identified the attacker as Nicholas Njue Ireri, a military officer and the owner of the entertainment establishment.

The suspect has since been linked to two similar occurrences previously reported, and he is also accused of making threats to the family following the crime.

“Alituambia hakuna kitu tutamfanyia na hatumjui, alichukua hadi pesa za huyo kijana wangu na bag yake na akaenda nazo kwa gari yake…aliumia kijana tukapata akiwa chini analia,” added Ms. Okinda.

Unfortunately, Alphy died as a result of injuries acquired during the beating. His bereaved family claims that the loss has destroyed them.

“Sasa mwili wa mtoto wangu uko Mama Lucy…mimi nalia lakini yeye ako hapa anaendelea na biashara…nimeenda kwa polisi, kila mahali sisaidiki, wakenya wooii mnisaidie, mtoto wangu aliuliwa…huyo askari hata polisi wanamjua,” stated Ms. Okinda.

The family has sought assistance from Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Mohamed Amin, who has now verified receipt of the complaint

Amin called on the public to report their cases using the Fichua kwa DCI hotline whenever they face challenges from investigators pursuing their cases.
