NYOTA FUND: Gov’t Announces Deadline For Application, Issues Advisory
Thousands of young Kenyans risk missing out on government prospects as the National Youth Opportunities Towards Advancement (NYOTA) Project begins accepting final applications for the project’s On-the-Job Experience (OJE) component.
The State Department of Youths Affairs and Creative Economy has urged eligible adolescents to finish their registration by the deadline, saying that time is running out.
“Today marks the final deadline for applications to the NYOTA Project On-the-Job Experience (OJE) component,” stated the department.
“You have only a few hours remaining to take a decisive step toward building practical skills and unlocking meaningful employment opportunities.”
The department also said that applicants can register by dialing *254# and selecting the OJE option, which takes only a few minutes and does not involve any payment.

The On-the-Job Experience initiative intends to match 90,000 youngsters with professional trainers for six months, providing practical skill development and a monthly payment of Ksh 6,000 to participants.
Kenyan citizens aged 18 to 29 years, or up to 35 years for Persons with Disabilities (PWDs), with a Form 4 education or below, are eligible to apply.
The NYOTA Project is a Ksh5 billion investment sponsored in conjunction with the World Bank that will target 820,000 vulnerable children across 47 countries over a five-year period.

Since early 2026, President William Ruto has been touring numerous counties to officially launch the scheme, personally supervising the flow of money in an effort to enhance transparency and prevent potential resource exploitation.
The President handed Ksh63 million to 2,520 youngsters in Mandera County, and a comparable sum to young people in Garissa County, including refugee youth.
According to the State Department, an additional 20,000 youth with skills but lacking formal certification will benefit through the Recognition of Prior Learning component, receiving assessment and official certification of their capabilities.
The program maintains 50-50 gender parity and prioritises marginalised groups, with all Principal Secretaries deployed across counties to ensure efficient rollout and direct accountability to beneficiaries.
