GOONS’ WORLD: Attackers Raid, Cause Chaos At MP Tim Wanyonyi’s Office

Chaos erupted in Bungoma County on Saturday after suspected goons stormed a campaign command center, which is linked to Westlands MP Tim Wanyonyi, in Makutano, Kanduyi Constituency.

During the attack at the Eninga Command Centre, the attackers injured some security personnel stationed at the center, and shattered windows, prompting police officers to respond in an effort to restore order and protect property.

Police officers based in Makutano have launched investigations into the incident, with police vowing to identify those responsible and hold them accountable.

The Eninga Command Center, associated with Wanyonyi, has reportedly caused friction in some quarters.

According to witnesses, the morning’s attack is believed to have been orchestrated by organised goons targeting the facility.

During the incident, security personnel at the center were forced to defend themselves after the attackers threw stones and vandalised property.

At the time of publishing this story, no arrests had been made, nor had Wanyonyi responded to the matter, as he was attending a fundraising event.

Wanyonyi, the current Westlands MP, has been spending time in his rural Bungoma County as he campaigns to seek the county governorship in the 2027 general election.

Wanyonyi won the Westlands parliamentary seat in 2022 on an Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) ticket, while his brother, Moses Wetang’ula, leads FORD-Kenya, which has significant influence in Bungoma County.

For a better part of last year, many political analysts and residents of Nairobi had hoped that the MP would contest the capital’s gubernatorial seat.

However, in June last year, the lawmaker claimed that he was no longer interested in the Nairobi Gubernatorial seat and he intends to run for  Bungoma’s top seat.

During the announcement, he said that he was optimistic that serving people from his home county would be the perfect way to hang up his boots in the political arena.

Even so, Wanyonyi is set to face off against other key contestants in next year’s elections.

They include MP Didmus Barasa, former Governor Wycliffe Wafula Wangamati, and current Deputy Governor Jenipher Mbatiany, who has also declared her interest among others.
