Fresh Details Emerge In Gospel Artist’s Acid Attack After CCTV Footage Acquisition
Fresh details have emerged in the ongoing investigation into the acid attack against gospel artist Mary Claire by her suspected estranged lover, Elvis Opiyo.
It has now emerged that Opiyo had previously attacked the victim before the recent attempted murder, in an incident that dates back to 2025.
The new revelations were made after Opiyo was arraigned at the Kibera Law Courts on Monday, March 23.
However, besides being charged with the recent attempted murder, he was also charged with the assault that dates back to November 25, 2025.
During the proceedings, the court was informed that Claire had previously reported being assaulted by Opiyo and laterĀ filed a complaint with the police.
Despite reporting the matter to the police, Opiyo was neither arrested nor investigated at the time, raising questions about the earlier handling of the case.
CCTV Footage on Incident
At the same time, CCTV footage has reportedly placed the main suspect at the scene of the incident shortly after the acid attack.
This raises more suspicions about his possible involvement in planning the incident.
The CCTV footage indicates that approximately 30 minutes after Claire was attacked, Opiyo appeared at the same medical facility where she had been rushed for first aid.
According to the footage timeline, Claire was captured entering Equity Afya Hospital along Ngong Road at around 4:04pm.
Roughly an hour later, Opiyo was allegedly seen entering the same facility before leaving shortly afterwards as Claire was being attended to by medical staff.

His presence at the hospital has raised suspicion among investigators, who believe it may suggest the main suspect’s prior knowledge of the attack.
Meanwhile, in the latest incident, Opiyo was charged with attempted murder following the attack that occurred along Ngong Road near Prestige Plaza.
This is after an unknown assailant is alleged to have poured acid on the gospel singer.
Following his arraignment, the court ordered that Opiyo remain in custody for five days to allow detectives more time to complete investigations into the attempted murder.
Detectives have since moved to establish whether Opiyo communicated with Claire before the attack or maintained contact with the individual believed to have carried out the acid assault.
