Ruto’s Lawyer Among FIVE Shortlisted For Supreme Court Judge
The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has shortlisted five candidates for the position of Supreme Court Judge after reviewing six applications.
In a notice by the JSC published on Friday, the shortlisted candidates are Justices Joseph Kipchumba Kigen Katwa, Warsame Abdulahi Mohammed, Joseph Kiplagat Sergon, Francis Kipruto Tuiyott and former Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) Chair Anne Waceke Kiratu Makori.
The interviews are set to be conducted between Tuesday, April 28, and Wednesday, April 29.
Members of the public were invited to submit information regarding any of the shortlisted candidates, with the assurance that it would be kept confidential.
The process was occasioned by the death of Justice Mohamed Ibrahim in December last year, following a short illness.
Thereafter, the JSC advertised the position on January 27, with the application window closing on February 17, 2026.

In its notice, JSC also invited members of the public to submit their reservations regarding the shortlisted candidates, as it insisted on transparency and public participation in the hiring process.
“Members of the public are invited to avail in writing any information of interest in respect to any of the shortlisted candidates using the contacts: 020 2739180 or recruitment@jsc.go.ke,” JSC announced.

“Take note that the Commission may interview any member of the Public who has submitted information on any of the shortlisted candidates, and such information shall be kept confidential,” the Commission added.
Once the interviews are complete, the Commission is expected to forward its nominee to President William Ruto for appointment per the Constitutional requirement.
Meanwhile, Katwa Kigen’s shortlisting for a role at the Apex Court comes just two months after he was appointed and sworn in as a Judge of the Court of Appeal on January 27, 2026.
Kigen has in the past represented Ruto in high-profile cases, including being his defence team at the International Criminal Court (ICC) and during the 2022 presidential election petition.
